Gogol is an ethnic Ukrainian, born in Ukraine of Ukrainian (and Polish) ancestry. He wrote in Russian, lived in St. Petersburg and Moscow, but was not himself Russian. Please clarify and update this persistently wrong information about him.
ReplyDeleteGogol was Russian, and at the time he was born there was no such country as Ukraine. Or was it? Show me on the map of XIX c.
