"Mandoliinimängijanna" - "Lautomängija" / Michelangelo Caravaggio / Ermitaaž, Peterburi.

* "The Lute Player" is a composition by the Italian Baroque master Caravaggio. It exists in three versions, one in the Wildenstein Collection, another in the Hermitage Museum, St. Petersburg and a third from Badminton House, Gloucestershire. - Wikipedia.
It was long thought that the painting in the Hermitage was depicting a female lute player, which was also reflected in its Russian title ("Mandolinistka", "Ljutnistka").

* "Lautomängija" (1595) on Itaalia kunstniku Caravaggio maal, millest on olemas kolm versiooni. Siinsel postkaardil on nn Ermitaaži versioon. Kuna Caravaggio esimene biograaf arvas, et maal kujutab mandoliini (lautot) mängivat neiut, nimetati Ermitaaži versiooni kaua aega "Mandolinistka", mis tähistab mandoliini mängivat naist, hiljem "Ljutnistka" (lautomängijanna) ja alles sellest ajast, kui selgus, et maalil on kujutatud Caravaggio armastatud noormeest, hakati maali Ermitaažis kutsuma "Lautomängijaks". 1945. aastal välja antud postkaardi tagaküljel on pildi nimeks "Mandolinistka".

Postcard, 1972.
My collection.

* "Boatman of Viljandi": Often the popular old Estonian song is sung about the Boatman of Viljandi or the legend of him is told. Long-long ago, as a young man he had once taken a young girl across the lake on a summer evening and fallen hopelessly in love with the girl's blue eyes. Nobody knows what happened on the lake, but on the other side, the girl just waved him good-bye and left... However, the Boatman, a grey old man now, is said to row on the lake to this day, longing to see those wonderful blue eyes again
