*  Monument of Lydia Koidula dates to 1929 and was the last work by famous Estonian sculptor Amandus Adamson. Lydia Emilie Florentine Jannsen, (1843 – 1886), known after her pen name Lydia Koidula was an Estonian poet.

* Monument to Minin and Pozharsky is a bronze statue on Red Square of Moscow, Russia in front of Saint Basil's Cathedral. The statue commemorates prince Dmitry Pozharsky and Kuzma Minin, who gathered the all-Russian volunteer army and expelled the forces of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth from Moscow, thus putting an end to the Time of Troubles in 1612. Designed by the architect Ivan Martos, it was erected in 1818 and became Russia's first monumental sculpture. The pediment is inscribed with the words: "To Citizen Minin and Prince Pozharsky, from a grateful Russia".

* "September 1" is a painting by the Soviet artist A. Volkov. The piece, depicting a student getting ready for the first day of school, was widely known in the 1950s and typical of the period. Created in 1951, it included the "mandatory attributes" of the time: J. Stalin's portrait and bust. The artist supposedly removed those elements from his original painting in the 1960s. The girl is wearing a school uniform and a Young Pioneer scarf.

* Knowledge Day (Russian: День Знаний), often simply called 1st of September, is the day when the school year traditionally starts in Russia and many other former Soviet republics. This day also marks the end of summer and the beginning of autumn.

*  "Esimene september" on Nõukogude kunstniku A. Volkovi 1950.-1960. aastatel väga tuntud maal esimeseks koolipäevaks valmistuvast tüdrukust. 1951. a loodud pildil on veel n-ö kohustusliku atribuudina J. Stalini büst ja portree. Väidetavalt on kunstnik need 1960ndatel aastatel oma maali originaalilt eemaldanud.

* Mikhail Glinka (1804 – 1857), was the first Russian composer to gain wide recognition within his own country, and is often regarded as the father of Russian classical music. Operas "Ivan Susanin" and "Ruslan and Lyudmila"; his major orchestral works include the symphonic poem "Kamarinskaya" based on Russian folk tunes, and two Spanish works: "A Night in Madrid" and "Jota Aragonesa"; many art songs, many piano pieces, and some chamber music.

* Vasily Zhukovsky (1783 – 1852) was the foremost Russian poet of the 1810s and a leading figure in Russian literature in the first half of the 19th century.

* The Tsarskoye Selo Lyceum was opened on October 19, 1811. The first graduates were all brilliant and included Alexander Pushkin and Alexander Gorchakov. The opening date was celebrated each year with carousals and revels, and Pushkin composed new verses for each of those occasions.
