"The Little Humpbacked Horse (Konyok-Gorbunok)" - 3.

"That's not all," the chamberlain
Whispered, as he bowed again.
"Were it but the feather, he
Might retain it, Majesty-
But, he boasts, as I have heard,
That, did you but say the word,
He could bring the Bird of Fire
To your Royal Chamber, Sire."
And the spy, with servile tread,
On all fours approached the bed,
Dropped the treasure-and once more
Banged his head upon the floor.

«Да и то ль ещё он знает! —
Спальник тихо продолжает,
Изогнувшися. – Добро!
Пусть имел бы он перо;
Да и самую Жар-птицу
Во твою, отец, светлицу,
Коль приказ изволишь дать,
Похваляется достать».
И доносчик с этим словом,
Скрючась обручем таловым,
Ко кровати подошёл,
Подал клад – и снова в пол.
